A comfy nights sleep on the dojo mats and a beautiful sunrise through the trees (albeit over the concrete highway) . Sam our host was handing out "Flying Tiger" tae kwon do/hapkido t-shirts to all of the crew and we looked ready to rumble (or at least walk strongly on to Plainfield !)

After the cleanup frenzy had settled down, the Nichiren monks, Renjo san and Suzuki san led a blessing for the dojo. The drumming was a powerful, almost breakbeat rhythm and between cycles facing the altar, they walked around the dojo throwing rice and chanting. Sam was really excited the ceremony had happened and came to visit us at lunch to return a few left items and hang out in the Burger King carpark !

There was one brief tangent from the organized directions but we still made good time to Plainfield. We have definitely reached the outskirts of the city now. There is almost a constant string of shops and services and the air quality has changed as rapidly as the landscape.

The people are lively here though, without the dead eyes and dead aura that I notice in the city centers. People come out of their houses when they hear us passing by and kids bop or dance booty style to the drumming ! In these lower socio economic areas is often where we find our greatest support. A man stops his car with his young and very cute daughter to hand us all water bottles as we pass by. I savour the good water after having drunk from the tap all day...

I was feeling drained by the time we arrived at the Quaker meeting house, ready to stretch out, enjoy a cup of tea and meet the local community.... Bilbo rushed by and said he couldn't find the computer and bits he had left in the library, which seemed to be the unfortunate outcome of a burglary that afternoon ... fingerprints had been dusted and it was being looked into etc. It's a bummer to lose that work less than a week before we arrive in NY NY, but I guess it would soon be time for it to go anyway. Unfortunately we lost the digital photo card reader and CD burner as well, which has been a great setup for "office' while away. Most people were more upset that the mini martin guitar had gone... for me it is the simple feeling that someone has (more than likely) watched the group gear being unloaded and come back. I can only assume they really needed the $$ or the stuff.

The prayer room was circa 1788, a beautiful place to sleep and an uncanny date for the aussies on the trip, being the year Australia was invaded and colonized....

One friend that I walk for now is Mariam, a gentle lady whose bunions have disfigured her feet past the comfort of any distance walk...

And the new walkers keep rolling in !
