Annie's Next Walk

My walk went really well. About 25 people walked the whole way, most of them were under 30 which surprised me. And plus those people we were greeted by some more people along the way.

We started the walk at Mokapu which is a penininsula that was a burial ground for the Hawaiians and many of the bones were dug up and the Kaneohe Marine Base was built on top of it.

A woman named Donnie Ono whos family used to take care of that land came and told us about Mokapu and then did a Hawaiian chant asking the ancestors to guide us. And then we started.

The beginning of the day was very hot and alot of it was uphill on a small shoulder. On the way up we stopped at a hei'au (old Hawaiian temple) that was used for start gazing and learned some about that land. When we got to the top of the Pali it was very windy and beautiful. We ate lunch and learned about Palau, which is a small island that is used for nuclear testing, and started down the pali. As we were walked down we were blessed by a lovely light rain. When we got to the Shinto temple where the walk ended the Reverend from there came out to meet us and let us all ring the Hiroshima peace bell that is there and gave us nice refreshments.

This walk went really really well. The people who participated were great, I learned alot, and we were covered by 3 news stations and one paper. I think I will organize another one next year.
