Run For Freedom - 2002

The Run For Freedom 2002 was a 500 mile circle around the Tri State area of Cincinnati Ohio traveling through Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

The run started at the Chief Little Turtle Monument in Covington Kentucky where the runners and walkers gathered once again to leave their footprints for peace and justice on the byways and highways of America.

The first days run was to Brookville Indiana. We had some problems in that the route on the first day was marked wrong and so one of the groups had to do a little back tracking to get back on the correct route. Not what you want to happen!
When we finally reached Brookville Fran and Albert provided us with overnight accomodations and Heather and Ammon provided us with a splendid meal.

The second day of the run found the group at Antioch College College in Yellow Springs Ohio. It was a beautiful day for running and it was really hot. There was a lot of traffic to get through since we went through the city of Dayton Ohio heading east toward Yellow Springs. Peggy, John and Jon Burkindine were one of the groups and they had a rest stop in front of "Peggy's Bar And Grill" which oddly enough was painted the same pink color of the shorts that Peggy was wearing. Check out the picture on the right.

The next day's journey was to Hocking Hills Highland Nature Sanctuary where we were to spend the night. Meagen Kresge and Tyler Vega joined the group here.

While we were sitting around the campfire on a very dark night Tyler just walked in out of the shadows. It was truly amazing how he made it to where we were. You can read about his adventure in a story he write called "Freedom".

After breaking camp, cirle and ceremony we started off to run to Boonesboro Kentucky which was our next overnight. This was a long stretch that took us over the Ohio River into Maysville and from there to Boonesboro. We were very glad to have Megan and Tyler on board. Larry Crane and Fran Hardaway joined us at our camp site that night for the final leg of the run the next day.

The next morning we made our way straight north towards Cincinnati and ended the run at Devue Park in Covington Kentucky where we had our closing circle and ceremony. Another run putting thousands of FootPrints For Peace, around Cincinnati this time.
