Veronika and Father Boland joined us for breakfast the following morning, which Ayrshire CND had prepared. We have been totally spoilt with our stay in Kilmarnock, and this continued with Veronika giving us all a lunch pack to take for our days’ journey. With a group photo out the front of the church we left St Matthews saying our goodbyes and gratitude.

No rain today!! Although it looked like it was going to rain all day, the afternoon turned into a glorious sunny day. We had a massive 17 mile day to walk with the route taking us around Prestwick Airport. The Airport is used by the United States for ‘extraordinary rendition’ of “terror” suspects to secret CIA prisons similar to Guantanamo Bay. Prestwick is also known for the transportation of cluster bombs from America to Israel. Cluster bombs by International Law are illegal but have been used recently by Israel during the recent attacks on Lebanon. Obviously this made the police very nervous as we had 2 groups of police stop us at our first break and then a car follow us to lunch. During lunch we were surprised to receive a donation from a passerby who dropped off some ice-creams for us. We had plenty, with Jamie having to eat 4 … as we couldn’t get the police to help us out!!

From lunch we walked around the Airport with a police car in the front and a 4 wheel drive van at the back on the footpath. With a plane overhead, 9 walkers and a police van behind on the path - for the passing cars this would have looked a sight.

We finished the day in the centre of Ayr, and then had to transport the walkers to a beautiful homestay in Sundrum. Only 3 miles from Ayr amongst the trees and a superb colorful garden in full bloom we were happy to arrive. We stayed with a beautiful women, Carol, who opened her gorgeous cottage for us all to stay. What a wonderful relaxing stay, thanks to Carols’ openness and friendliness. Dan pitched his tent amongst the trees with the backdrop of an incredible sunset. The rest of us spread all over the floor and sunroom, and the most wonderful part being a decent hot shower that has been long overdue for some of us!!
