From yesterdays’ local participation in the Market Place we had many people join us to walk today. Yeh!! We had such a full day!!

As we made our way into the town of Leicester we quickly forgot about how wet we all were after another fantastic welcome with many local people, groups and families coming out and cheering us on.

After a short stop with homemade cakes and cuppa’s we had an official welcome by the ‘Bailiff’ of Leicester who gave us a beautiful welcome and greeted all the walkers.

Thanks to Anna Cheetham, Brenda Worral and Caroline Moles who had organized the cakes, cuppa’s, media, music and more….. making our day such a wonderful experience. Their huge effort for the day was very appreciated by all the walkers.

On our way to the Quaker Friends Meeting House we walked through the Leicester Peace Walk to put flowers on the plaque of the British Nuclear Test Veterans Association that is dedicated to all those who have died since the British Tests in Australia.

For Marcus and I this was a huge honor to remember not only the British but also the Australian Veterans and the many Aboriginal people that have been affected by the nuclear tests. We spoke about the dreadful treatment & suffering to the Aboriginal people and to their sacred land because of the Atomic Tests carried out by the British Army and approval by the Australian Government in the 1950’s. This suffering still continues today.

Also in the Peace Park is a cherry tree planted by Hiroshima survivors in 1988.   To remember those that have been affected by the whole nuclear industry and for a world peace we hung peace cranes on the tree.
