Family Spirit Walk

2002

The walk began it's journey August 9th, 2002, at Tsangawi, a site sacred to the Tewa people Indigenous to New Mexico.

The walk proceeded through the town of Los Alamos, through dozens of indigenous communities affected by the nuclear chain (uranium mining, weapons production and testing, military and civilian waste, routine radioactive releases from nuclear power plants) bringing awareness to the communities on it's path.

The walk was 800 miles and took two months and ended at the Nevada Test Site and Yucca Mountain.

A newspaper observed at the Mercury Uprising gathering that Greg Zoland from Ontario, Canada is one of the first to arrive. He resembles a retired college professor. He says this is the fourth or fifth Test Site demonstration he's attended

"These people are like my spiritual kin," he says.
