1000 Mile
Four Directional Run - 2004
Preparations

A great deal of preparation goes into actions such as this. Folks attending need food, water, overnight accomodations, etc. Maps need to be made, routes have to be formulated, people have to be notified and so on and so forth. It takes work and dedication. It also takes financial resources. For a run of this length support vehicles are required and of course you have to get to where it starts too. Some folks are coming as far away as Australia to take part in this event. Plane tickets, bus fares, fuel for those who are driving are "donations" from these far away participants.

Symbolic articles also need to be designed and created. Most runs, at least the ones that Footprints For Peace organize, have hand make t-shirts to commorate these walks and runs. They become visual displays for all to see while you are putting in your miles and talking to your neighbors as your journey progresses. Of course they are also made available to the public for sale to help offset the cost of the event. People who buy them become "bill boards" for your message and of course you wear them yourself to various other events as a reminder that you are taking part in a campaign to forward the message that "All Life Is Sacred".

You are getting a sneak preview of this years "bill board". The genious behind the actual making ot the t-shirts is veteran Peacemaker Jon Blickenstaff who is a co-founder of FootPrints For Peace and generously provided the equipment needed to create the t-shirts.

The art work on the shirt was envisioned and created by Dewey Jessepe.

As far as making the t-shirts this job fell to Jon Blickenstaff and Jim Toren. They spent many hours working on this project but after their long day was over they could see the fruits of their labor and I am sure they were both inspired by the knowledge that what they had created was just one more step in our journey to find peace and justice for all peoples of the world.
