The Walk was initiated by Nipponzan Myohoji Peace Pagoda in Leverett, MA. The walk was in response to the tragedy that occurred on Sept. 11th and the confusion and fear that followed this event. The purpose of the walk was to bring people in the communities along the path of the walk together to have dialogue sharing anxieties, confusion, insights, information and encouragement. We believe that through clearer understanding we may together open ways for people as a whole to move and grow towards creating a society with true security and peace Because every step on the earth is a prayer in search of clearer understanding and a course of action which brings peace and security, rather than more seeds of terror and violence. Walking in the cold time, like facing the difficulty of the present day, builds the strength of patience. But the time of severe cold is a prelude to a new Spring. |
