A Profile Of Courage

by John Michael Toren

"Our family's journey to SOA is really a venture in faith for us," said Erik Johnson, a Presbyterian minister from Maryville, Tenn. who was arrested along with his 18-year-old daughter, Ingrid. "Part of coming to SOA is also joining in the hope that ... the violence raging in peoples' lives (in Central America) doesn't have to have the last word. We want to stand in solidarity with the hope that is born of their struggle."

With Erik's own words I would like to introduce you to a man and his remarkable family. While on the 2002 Atlanta to Oak Ridge Peace Pilgrimage I had the opportunity to stay at the Johnson house in Maryville Tenn. They hosted our group overnight in their house and we all felt like we were actually at home.

Erik and family have been dedicated to peace and love in this world for many years. These humble, modest people represent the best of the best.

Erik was arrested in an effort to bring the insanity of the School of Americas to public scrunity. He knew full well the consequences he would face but he crossed the line anyway and has now been sentenced to prison. A gentle man who exudes love and kindness. A common man with uncommon valor! I am blessed that I was able to meet such a man and his family. The world is blessed with the spirit and courage of this family and we should never forget them!

Let us stand in solidarity with them now!

I would also asked you to send this information to all your friends to inform them of this happening. Erik and family will need all the support we can give them.

Blessed are the Peacemakers.

With much love John Toren.
