Today we walked to one of the most deadly and evil places in the world: Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Aldermaston.
New nuclear weapons work is being done at the AWE with the “Orion” laser to simulate nuclear explosions, Hydrodynamics testing facilities and super computer to analyse results and design new nuclear weapons. AWE already manufactures nuclear warheads for Trident submarines. These are capable of killing millions of people, by blast fire and radiation. Radiation continues to kill and maim for generations. These new developments are a misuse of resources as developments costs are estimated to be £25 billion and the new developments are illegal. The advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice on the “Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons” 1996 The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty 1970 reviewed in 2000: Article V1 “Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament……..”
