Peacemakers On The Scene

Hiroshima Flame Visits
Peace Hostel Amelia
August, 2002

We were treated to a great suprise in August of 2002. Becky, Musa and Shingo pulled into the driveway of the Peace Hostel on their way to the closing ceremony for the Hiroshima Flame at Big Mountain. What a pleasure to see them again and feel the spirit of the flame as well as the spirits of all the marvelous people we met who took part in this awesome happenning.

Their stay was a brief one. A good supper and overnight accomodations were provided as well a a good breakfast the mext morning. Jim did some needed repairs on Musa'a car and they were refreshed, re-supplied and off to Big Mountain.

Just before they left Shingo gifted me some ashes from the Flame. I was deeply touched by this gift and after they departed I sat for awhile by myself thinking about the history I held in my hands. These ashes, from the burning embers within a little bookstore in Hiroshima Japan back in August of 1945 to a little run down house in the small village of Amelia Ohio in August of 2002, had been kept alive all these decades and that was nothing short of miraculous. From the rubble and destruction arose a message of hope for peace in our world. I was overwhelmed.
