Peddling For Peace
SOAW Protest - Ft Benning Ga
Nov, 2002

I was providing support for the Atlanta Dojo's Peace Pilgrimage to the SOA last year and I was maybe a quarter of a mile ahead of the group waiting for them to get to the rest stop. As I was looking down the road I could see that they had stopped and were talking to some folks on bicycles.

Then one of the bicyclers started off and within a minute or two he was pulling up along side the support vehicle, stopped, got off and we shared some hugs and hellos. As it turns out, he and his two buddies where headed to the SOAW protest as well. They had come all the way from Knoxville Tennessee on their bikes!!! The other two soon joined us and after the hugs and hellos they told me their story. I asked them if they had a name for their little band of peddlers and they said no. I suggested to them that they should at least get tee-shirts with the logo "Peddlers For Peace." They laughed and we parted company with a "see you at the gates."

I have forgotten their names and for some reason I didn't write them down so I can't tell you who they where but I can tell you that I thought it was pretty amazing to see these guys riding bicycles and carrying all their needs on little trailers being pulled along behind.

No gasoline, no oil, no polution. An prime example that you can perform actions targeted at peace and justice and at the same time protect the environment.
