Peacemakers On The Scene

National March, San Francisco - 01/18/2003

In solidarity with the National March on D.C. 350,000 people converged on San Francisco to protest U.S. war on Iraq. The crowd stretched continuously from the foot of Market St. and filled the Civic Center to capacity.

Peacemaker Tyler Vega was on the scene and issued the following report:

Our group started out with Becky, Marie, Noel(Marie's sister) and Emily Truett(best friend of Marie).  We met up with Amy Hutto, picked up K-pax in the morning and went downtown to join the protest.

It was the biggest protest that I was involved in, 350,000. Our group walked about a mile to the Civic Center in downtown San Fransisco.

I believe that Durwin was there but I did not see him.

To me, the most interesting thing about this particular experience was a man that we met who was dressed in Roman armor. He was carrying a sign that said "Pro War Activist's" amidst 350,000 peace activists.

This man turned out to be strong grounded, very intelligent, and a key to true peace. In holding strong to a very different point of view, that ultimately holds the same objective, and being peaceful in the face of verbal attack, he demonstrated peace and paradox. His point of view is "that part of God's plan is that war is part of a way to bring peace, and this is a necesary piece of the truth that many peacemakers ignore and many peacemakers cannot accept."

From my point of view acceptance of everything is part of the way to peace.

Amy and I had a discussion about our perspective. To accept that which we cannot accept and love that which we cannot love is a way to peace.

Perhaps we need an action with signs saying "we love George Bush"
