Memories Home Day Log Index |
We began our walk with great anticipation after a good night's rest at St. Nicholas of Myra Parish Hall. As we walked through the streets of Dublin we got lots of support from its residents with thumbs up and honking of horns. We make a pretty impressive sight with lots of flags, drumming and chanting, and our banner giving our intention of walking from Dublin to London in 86 days.
Our first stop was the GPO (General Post Office) downtown where we were welcomed by several political dignitaries including the Deputy Lord Mayor of Dublin, MEP's (Member of European Parliament), former MEP's, Senator David Norris, Sinn Fein representatives, members of AFRI (Action for Ireland), Irish CND, No 2 Nukes, Pax Christi, Dominican Nuns from Dublin and Belfast, Eoin Duncan, Director of the Chernobyl Children's Project International and many more, most of whom accompanied us for the early morning walk through the city of Dublin. We finally left the city and got our first taste of Ireland's beautiful countryside. We went by lots of well kept farms bounded by neatly trimmed hedges. After a long day of walking, we finally made it to Swords where we were warmly greeted by the women of BASE resource center. We fixed a hearty meal, sang as many Irish folk songs as we could remember, and bunked down for a well-deserved sleep. |
