Thanks to Erik’s sound prayers for rain we had plenty of it on Sunday. We started in the rain, and we walked all day in the rain that never let up. Over the beautiful land, high up and over hills across the green fields, we are well on our way out of the city of Glasgow now. With so much rain we were all soaked to the bones and at lunch we opted to dry off in the local pub for tea and coffee.

The rain certainly didn’t dampen our spirits, in fact by the time we reached St Matthews Church in Kilmarnock we were all feeling pretty high. I think at times the most inspiring and enjoyable days are those which are challenging with the weather.

Thanks to Father Joe Boland from St Mathews, Ayrshire CND and our friend Veronika and her family we had a great night with many local people joining us for a delicious dinner prepared by CND.

Afterwards, stuffed full of great food we had an informal gathering and talked about the walk. We showed the slideshow that we have made about all the different walks we have done. This generated a really great discussion about the walk but most importantly about the nuclear issues and what is happening here in Scotland and how this is related to the rest of the world. One of the main points being made was the economic discussion on how people are generally becoming more aware (and affected by) how much money is being spent on nuclear weapons and not on housing, education and hospitals.

Today was Erik’s last day walking with us so after the meeting we had a small circle to farewell Erik and wish him a safe journey.
