After a long and well deserved rest our bodies slowly recovering from yesterday’s rocky road …. we are back on the main road to Ballantrae – the A 77. The sun has been glorious over the last few days and today is no exception. Leaving the Church of Scotland we gave Sue a string of peace cranes and a thank you card to the parish, and we were on our way.

We followed the beautiful west coast of Scotland around the many coves and open mountains feeling incredibly strong as our flags blew in the slight breeze. Although this road is extremely busy we had incredible support from the trucks and cars that passed us – much to our surprise. At times there was no side walk and followed a very narrow and winding path along the road, however the trucks and cars slowed down and allowed us to walk with much ease and without too much stress.

We enjoyed the sun along the way resting in some beautiful places to be filled with energy.

Our stay place for the next few days was a surprise find when Marcus and I were traveling the walking route. We came in to the Ballantrae Café for some food, after we looked around and saw only one place that would be suitable for the walk to stay – the Village Hall. The café instantly had a great feel with all its worldly and curious items displayed around the shop. We ordered some soup from the young women behind the counter. She then disappeared back into the kitchen. After a few minutes her mum came out and said “Are you Australian?” Saying “yes”, we quickly moved into a great conversation, finding out that Maggie had lived in Australia for 20 years and some of her children (including the young one who served us) were born in Australia. They asked “what we were doing in Ballantrae?” and of course we told them about the walk. Jim and Maggie offered their place – the Ballantrae Café as a place for the walkers to rest and unwind when we came in on Wednesday June 6th and to spend the rest day on Thursday. So we were happy to be walking to their place after such a great meeting.

In another great space, it was Jamie’s 17th Birthday, and both Marcus and I were so pleased and honored to be celebrating his birthday for another year on a peace walk. We reminisced over dinner about his 14th birthday in Japan with the famous “Reuben Flaming Cake” with much laughter. Maggie had made Jamie a surprise cake for his birthday and we celebrated with much fun!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jamie
