Close the SOA - Peace Walk - Atlanta to Fort Benning - 2008

Navigation Bar Submit Feedback    Morning prayers are being taken in the Atlanta Dojo. Brother Utsumi, front, and Sister Denise, behind Brother Utsumi, are leading these prayers just as they have been for many years.

The walkers are gathered for a picture in front of the Atlanta Dojo just before starting the Peace Walk. Bob Watkins, second from the left between the two drums, provided most of the pictures of the walk. Thanks Bob!

The tradition on the start of the walk has been to stop at the memorial site of Martin Luther King Jr. It is a fitting place to pray for peace and a most emotional time for those of us who have prayed there.

After prayers at the King Memorial Brother Utsumi and Sister Denise lead the walkers down the road on the first day's walk.

The walkers circle for prayers at the end of the first day. In many ways the first day is the hardest because unless you are used to this kind of walking you are really tired. The farther you go the easier it gets.

Prayers of thanks are always given to the generous folks who host the walkers overnight. Once given the walkers are off on another days march.

Jon Blickenstaff carries the Gendaiki with Sister Denise behind to the right. Bob Watkins, in the blue t-shirt, can be seen just to the right of Sister Denise.

The entire group of walkers are on the podium drumming, chanting and praying for peace and justice.
