Memories Home Day Log Index |
Another beautiful day in Ireland and today is
not going to be a big mileage day and that's good because everyone is looking forward to a rest day. The leader of the town council came out to give us a send off this morning. Tonight will also be our last overnight in Southern Ireland about a quarter of the way into the day a guy named Rogey joined us he is a local guy and very pleasant to walk with and what a great energy to bring to the walk he was just happy to be a part of the walk.
We stopped for lunch at a pub and he knew the owners they opened up the place letting us use the toilets and having some good conversations with more of the locals while the other 1/2 of the group took a nice nap on the side of the road. I got a chance to walk with him for a little while and he told me stories of what it was like back in the day to cross the border in to Northern Ireland.
The day has turned out to be just beautiful and actually quite hot. We came into town and were greeted by a group of Nuns from a local peace and justice group. We all walked through town together and then were greeted again by representatives of the local town council and Mark Dearey from the green party who helped to organize our overnight here at St. Patrick's Cathedral right in the middle of town. The resident priests have organized dinner for us and not only that tomorrow during our rest day they have organized breakfast and dinner again for us. So far this has been a wonderful walk with many supporters please check back next week for more updates. |
