A vigil out at Rolls Royce Factory in Raynesway (about 12 miles from Nottingham).

Rolls Royce Raynesway designs, supplies and supports all the Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) systems and equipment which power the Royal Navy’s submarines including Trident.

For over 50 years, they have supplied all the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine reactor.

There are 2 licensed nuclear sites here – the manufacturing plant and also the Neptune test reactor.

Under the Mutual Defence Agreement of 1958 the US and UK exchange nuclear design info. It’s the cornerstone of all US/UK cooperation on nuclear matters. Under it, US company Westinghouse gave Rolls Royce the basic reactor technology to design, manufacture and maintain submarine reactors and to produce fuel rods.

Rolls Royce specializes in engines. It supplies 135 different countries and 100 armed forces including China, Indonesia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. A quarter of its sales are military and in terms of revenue its contribution to the UK’s arms trade is second only to BAE Systems.

A huge thanks to all the people including the young people who joined us for the vigil on Sunday afternoon. It was a great turn out of many different groups and faith being represented.

A big thanks again to Nottingham CND, Nottingham Quakers, Indian Workers Associate and Leslie & Mike Mathews from CND Midland who all gave us all great support during our walk through this area.

We have definitely built some strong connections to work in solidarity with you all in the future. Stay strong with your commitment to call on Rolls Royce to phase out all nuclear activities at the Raynesway plant.

  Thank you.
